Africa! The very name conjures images of vast, untamed wilderness and a intact mega-fauna without peer on our planet. This magnificent treatise does nothing to dispel this notion. Beautifully crafted with original, humbling images and a useful text this is the Africa I dream of. Thus this book is not only an enlightening document but an uplifting ode that at once gives rise to hope ....... if only we could somehow fend off the evils of poaching and the by-product of expanding human population. It so good to know that vast, tractless wildernesses still exist and remain for our planet's and our grand-children's future. I will treasure this magnificent book for many, many years to come.

A great addition to my Africa safari library. I was unaware of Robert Ross until mention of him and glances of his sensational photography in Jeffery Gettlemen’s family safari article in the NYT travel section. Bought it immediately and am savoring it this weekend. I like the layout of the book, quality of the printing and insightful text by several authors including Ross. Makes one want to get to the Selous right away. The book is a bargain for the Amazon price.

This book is a timeless treasure, four years in the making. Each page tells a story, revealed in detail, that only a photographer of extraordinary patience and a deep connection to wildlife behavior could share. We're the luckier for it. I loved the movement of the camera lens from the vast panoramic views of the Selous mountain ridges and forests to the eyeballs of the spotted hyena and back to the wide sand river beds again. A family member saw the book on my coffee table, borrowed it for the week, and promptly planned a family trip to Tanzania. Having traveled to Tanzania twice, I can say that Robert Ross has captured the heart and soul of it on each page. Especially loved the battle-scared male lion on page 249.

This book is breathtaking! The photos of animals are so vivid that ones expects them to speak. The photography is nothing short of spectacular. This work is sure to be viewed as the best of its kind for many years to come. I bought myself the book a while back because I love wildlife. I have since bought several more copies to give as gifts to friends. All have been floored with its beauty.

A splendid book printed on quality stock with excellent photographs and vivid writing.
